Implied Reader

Westerly magazine seeks to provide a Western Australian-based voice, although its contributors and subject matter have never been geographically exclusive. Westerly covers literature and culture throughout the world, but maintains a special emphasis on Western Australia, and the Asian region (About | Westerly Magazine, 2020).

Contents

This edition of Westerly contains various poems, stories, articles, ficto-criticism, and reviews; all of which have about the same coverage (give or take a page of two).

This edition of Westerly contains a total of two advertisements, one at the beginning and one at the end. Both adverts are for books (Discover Western Australia by Jocelyn Burt & Peter Cowan New Critical Essays) that appeal to the tourist and the academic/student. Other than those two, there are no other adverts located anywhere within this edition.

Westerly’s primary focus was that of Western Australian voices (such as authors). The magazine does however include information from all over the rest of Australia, and parts of Asia.

Format

This edition of Westerly contains 132 pages of just text on a white background. Both adverts are also in black and white, and there are no pictures anywhere other than the cover, which is rather simple using few colours.
